With garden ornaments, subtlety is the key. Too many ornaments in too many colours will only look tacky. Choosing ornaments that blend with the theme and colour scheme of your garden is the best choice.
A good idea is to use garden ornaments, such as garden gnomes and garden statues, as accents in a few areas of your garden. In this way, they can draw attention to a particular area or plant that you are proud of. For example, you can have a statue peeking out from within a group of flowers. The statue should blend into the garden as if it belongs there and not stand out as a feature itself.
